3 common chemicals for mushroom identification in 1/2 oz plastic dropper bottles:
4% KOH (potassium hydroxide, aqueous)
10% FeSO4 (iron sulfate, aqueous)*
NH3OH (dilute ammonia, aqueous)
This kit will take your ID skills to the next level! Some mushrooms appear visually similar, but have distinct chemical properties, and therefore elicit different color changes upon chemical testing. Use these reagents to confirm your ID and you may discover new (unreported) chemical reactions if you start testing them on everything!
Not nearly enough mycologists use ID chemicals, so chances of a new discovery are very high!
Thanks to our manager and resident biochemist Mandie, we now offer this 3 piece reagent test kit.
These are dilute solutions, generally considered non-toxic. Rinse with soap and water in case of contact.
Shake the FeSO4 bottle occasionally before use, as its contents tend to settle.
