Ashwagandha Tincture (Withania somnifera) in 2oz amber glass dropper bottle

Ashwagandha is a winsome member of the nightshade family, a cousin of tomatoes and potatoes, and has been used in Traditional Indian Medicine for thousands of years. In India, Ashwagandha is known as the “strength of the stallion” since it has traditionally been used to strengthen the immune system after an illness (1). To this date, there are clinical studies that support Ashwagandha as an herb which acts to normalize the body, promote homeostasis, and improve resistance to a variety of disease factors (2) and stress making it a choice adaptogen.

MushroomLife has taken the root of organic Ashwagandha plants harvested at peak strength, cured and dried, then ground it into a powder, and extracted with a dry spagyric process. Ashwagandha is a natural yet potent agonist of the GABA A receptor system, which may be responsible for its calming effect (1,2). Additionally, Ashwagandha has also also been implicated as a sexual potentiator, especially in males (1-3), possibly also from its calming effect. In tincture format it can stimulate the libido in under 20 minutes. The stimulating effect it has on hormones has also been linked to cortisol-lowering and balancing of the thyroid gland (1,3). Additionally Ashwagandha could be pivotal in helping to control anemia, given that it contains bioactive iron, naturally accumulated when grown in red clay soil. (1)

In one clinical trial of people with moderate to severe anxiety, researchers compared the effects of a standardized Ashwagandha root preparation, to psychotherapy alone. After eight weeks, the group that received the root mixture had decreased anxiety/fatigue along with increased concentration and overall mental wellness, compared to group that underwent psychotherapy alone (1).

Brand new results from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study using an Ashwagandha extract were just released in September 2019. The findings from this study support the positive anxiolytic effects of Ashwagandha extract when taken over a 60 day time period, which was well-tolerated with no adverse effects. (3). Statistically significant, between-group differences were confirmed, and associated with a reduction in cortisol and DHEAS levels, and increased testosterone in males (3).

Energetically speaking Ashwagandha has archetypal correlations to Sun and Jupiter. With these planetary forces being represented in the increased male performance as well as the likely rise in jovial mood and stress regulation.

Ashwagandha may not be safe to alongside either benzodiazepines or immunosuppressants. Ashwagandha is not advised for women who are pregnant or nursing.
